She also founded jenerocity, a giving circle project for young Jewish professionals in Washington, DC and is a member of the Slingshot Fund, a collective fund which provides support for a subset of innovative organizations featured in the Slingshot Guide. In addition, Lana sits on the Issues Committee for the National Center for Family Philanthropy and the Steering Committee for the Nexus Global Youth Summit on Innovative Philanthropy and Social Entrepreneurship. Previously, she facilitated the Jewish Youth Philanthropy Institute (JYPI) program in Northern Virginia and served on the Young Leadership Board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. Prior to joining OPF, Lana worked as a Technology Consultant at Deloitte Consulting. She has a BSBA and Master's Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Washington University in St. Louis. ![]() | Maya Enista Smith | Maya Enista Smith joined Mobilize.org in July 2005 as Chief Operating Officer. Today, she is the Chief Executive Officer of a growing and innovative Millennial organization whose mission is to improve democracy by investing in Millennial-driven solutions. Maya began her career as the East Coast Coordinator for Rock The Vote at age 17, a position in which she registered over 30,000 young people. She continued her voter registration work when she accepted the position of National Field Director for the Hip Hop Civic Engagement Project, a project that grew out of the successful National Hip Hop Political Convention in Newark, NJ. In addition to her work with Mobilize.org, Maya serves on the Advisory Board for CIRCLE, the Working Group for the Civic Health Index of the National Conference on Citizenship, and the Board of Directors for BoardSource. For her leadership, Maya has been awarded a YouthActionNet Fellowship, the Independent Sector NGEN American Express Fellowship, Utne Reader’s 50 Visionaries Changing Your World Award, WIN’s Young Women of Achievement Award and Gelman, Rosenberg + Freedman 20011 EXCEL Award for Excellence in Non-Profit Management. Most recently, Maya was awarded the competitive Prime Movers Fellowship of the Hunt Alternatives Fund, a multi-year fellowship program for emerging and established social movement leaders working at the national level. Maya, very proud of her Jersey roots, grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey and attended Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ and Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. She currently resides in Washington DC with her husband, David and her two black labs, Hudson and Zinny. |

![]() | Benjamin Swig | Benjamin Swig is a Public Health Preparedness and Response consultant currently working as a Public Health Subject Matter Expert for Cabezon Group in the Office of the Surgeon General. He is responsible for strategic planning, and coordinating execution of the Community Health and Service Missions (CHASM) program recently initiated by the Office of Force Readiness and Deployment. Projects include organizational development, leadership development and training, strengthening local health infrastructure, increasing cultural fluency, and providing direct medical care to underserved and vulnerable populations within the United States. He has nearly ten years of experience working with nonprofit and volunteer organizations having worked with various levels of government and tribal nations. Benjamin has been an active member of Slingshot since 2010. Benjamin has an MPH from the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and Bachelor's degree from Trinity College. |
![]() | Marissa Lifshen | Marissa Lifshen is a Lead Educational Adviser at the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, located just outside of Washington, DC. As an Adviser, she provides comprehensive mentoring and financial support to high-achieving, low-income high school students from across the country. Previously, Marissa served as a College Access Specialist in the Atlanta Public Schools as part of a reform initiative called Project GRAD, whose mission is to increase high school graduation rates and college attendance in the most at-risk and underserved communities. She spent three years as the Director of College Counseling at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, an academically rigorous and socially diverse public school in Manhattan, where she was responsible for the creation and growth of their college counseling program. She also spent time living in Chicago, where she worked at two Jewish educational organizations in various capacities related to student services and outreach. Marissa has served as a panelist at several national and regional conferences, presenting on topics specifically targeted at orienting new professionals to the field of college admission counseling. She is also active in supporting the Multiple Sclerosis Society and has been recognized as a top fundraiser for each of the last five years. A native Texan, Marissa earned an Ed.M. in Counseling from Columbia University’s Teachers College and a dual B.A. in Psychology and Judaic Studies from Brown University. |

Prior to founding Third Plateau, Mike served as Senior Vice President for Operations and Strategy at the Bonner Group, Inc., a nonprofit and Democratic political fundraising firm in Washington, DC. In this capacity, Mike served as a lead consultant to the Democracy Alliance, a partnership of the nation’s leading progressive philanthropists. Before joining the Bonner Group, Mike worked at Mammen, Pritchard & Associates, a Democratic direct mail firm on Capitol Hill. Previously, he was the Public Policy Fellow at the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, where he was responsible for a range of policy issues, including election reform, hate crimes, and welfare reauthorization. Mike serves on the Board of Advisors of Philanthrotopia, a venture philanthropy partnership focused on innovative community-based impact through smart, grassroots philanthropy. A native of New York City, Mike lives in San Francisco with his wife, Debbie Tuttle Berkowitz. They recently returned from a nine-month around-the-world journey to Australia/New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Europe. Abby brings more than 10 years of experience in development, communications, and youth leadership development, which includes being a Class 2 Atlas Corps Fellow in Colombia. Abby also worked as a Development Strategist for the Inter-American Culture and Development Foundation (Washington, DC), Fundacion Escuela Nueva (Bogota, Colombia), and The Campus Kitchens Project (national). Abby is the DC Community Captain for the One Percent Foundation. She served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Puerto Rico and organized community development efforts throughout the northern part of the island. Abby graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communications and Spanish with a minor in Marketing from the University of Minnesota Duluth and completed the Fundraising for Small Nonprofits course offered by The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. |
